Your data

Forage knows things about you that most apps don't — who you travel with, who's single, what you're into, when you'll be away. That deserves plain speaking rather than a wall of legal text, so here it is.

What Forage keeps

• Your account — a handle, the name you choose, and an email if your invite carried one.
• What you tell the desks — every conversation with Chai, Bruno, Don, Carlos, Olivier, Max, Theo and Pip is stored, so they remember you next time. Olivier's thread is the frankest one: who's partnered, who's looking, who's on the down low.
• Your profile — the durable facts the desks learn: home airport, budget, dietary needs, tastes, preferred language, how you like to book.
• Your passport — the events you've been to and what you thought of them.
• Your plans — trips, dates, who's in each crew, decisions, and any money you log in a crew's honey pot.
• Running costs — how much AI time your chats used, so the bills can be paid.

Who can see it

• The desks see your profile and their own thread with you. A desk will not repeat one person's private business to anyone else — not even a crewmate.
• Your crew sees the shared things: the trip, its plan, decision cards, and the crew room. Not your private threads, and not your profile.
• The steward (the person who runs Forage) can technically see everything in the database, the way anyone running a service can. What they will actually read is covered below.
• Nobody else. Forage does not sell data, does not run trackers, and does not share your information with Bearings or anyone else. Shared pages — an itinerary link, a voting card — carry only the crew name, the question and its options.

Reading chats to improve Forage

Forage is early, and the fastest way to make it better is to see where a real conversation went wrong. That means reading actual chats — which is a different thing from counting them, so it's your call.

• Always collected, always anonymous: counts and shapes. How far people get, which desks they reach, whether a search came back empty. No message content, and nothing tied to you when it's looked at.
• Only with your yes: reading the actual words in your threads. Off unless you turn it on, on your You page, and you can turn it off whenever.
• Honest note: turning it off doesn't erase the conversation — it stays so the desks can remember you. Use Forget everything for that.

Taking it and deleting it

• Download it. Get everything Forage holds on you as a file, from your You page. No asking.
• Delete it. Forget everything removes your profile, notes, passport, travel windows and every desk conversation.
• What deletion can't reach: things that belong to a whole crew — a trip, its plan, a decision card, crew-room messages — because they're other people's too. Leave the crew, or ask its planner to delete the trip.
• Backups are kept for a short window for disaster recovery, so a deleted thing can survive there briefly before ageing out.

Where it lives

On a server the steward runs, in Europe — not on a third-party analytics platform. Conversations are processed by Anthropic's API to generate the replies. Event data comes from the Bearings commons; nothing about you goes back to it.

Somewhere risky

Events in countries where being gay is criminalised are handled differently: Forage never records or shows a location more precise than the country, and never attaches anyone's identity to them. If that's your situation and you'd rather Forage held less, say so — the desks will work with what you're comfortable giving.

Things that aren't true yet

Being straight about the roadmap: your data currently lives on Forage's server because that's the only option built. Letting people keep their own data somewhere they choose is wanted, not done. This page will change when that changes.
